In a heartbreaking incident on Wednesday, a three-year-old girl lost her life due to an attack by a wild animal in the Baboolal Purwa village, located within the Kaisarganj tehsil. Officials confirmed the tragic news.
Following the child's death, enraged villagers vandalized several vehicles present at the scene.
According to Forest Officer Omkar Nath Yadav, the young girl was sitting in her home's courtyard when a wild animal snatched her away. As villagers surrounded the area, the animal abandoned the child and fled through sugarcane fields, but not before inflicting severe injuries, including the loss of one of her hands.
The villagers rushed the girl to the hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries en route. The child has been identified as Soni, approximately three years old. The Forest Officer reported that the furious locals caused damage to some vehicles.
Police arrived at the scene to restore order. They noted that since September 9, three children have died, one child is missing, and around a dozen individuals have been injured over the past 15 days. The identity of the attacking animal remains unknown.
The Forest Department has established a control room in Bahraich and is conducting a search operation with over 100 personnel across three districts. The teams are utilizing thermal drones, night-vision cameras, and camera traps. Efforts are underway to capture the animal by securing livestock in cages at sensitive locations, while villagers patrol the area with sticks and torches throughout the night.
